A fairy tale....
Once upon a time there was a denim circle, it set out on a long journey over land and sea, it met a lovely denim clutch bag, they decided to run away together and rule over the great land of clutch bag.
They lived happily ever after.
....The End.

Some of my customers have asked me about the origin of my last name and how it is pronounced well if you ever wanted to know here goes.
Tushemeriirwe means 'we are happy' in Runyankole a southern Ugandan language.
How it would sound phonetically - tu-shem-er-ree-way.

Sometimes people question my environmental motives, what I believe in and how I choose to live my life.
I usually say I’m a tree hugger and I said this way before it became fashionable to be green, due to it being essential for the environment and one’s own well being.
My friend Ife wrote this poem ‘Solution to the problem’ and I wanted to share it with you because this is how I feel about the environment we live in and how we should be looking after our surroundings.

Baking – my first memory of baking is walking back from school, crossing the road at the zebra crossing with my wicker basket and sharing whatever I had made with my family when I got home, baking for the first time this weekend since then, I made lemon drizzle cakes and they tasted delicious. www.mariama.posterous.com

I have always loved second hand shopping, reusing and recycling from a very early age and discovered Freecycle late last year, I have only really used it properly about three weeks ago by offering items I no longer used and requesting items I needed. I recently requested knitting yarn, ribbon and general haberdashery and got a response to my ad from a lady who lived not far from me.
Check out the link www.freecycle.org and read more about how it works and get involved.
I really wanted to start knitting again and experimenting with different yarns, ribbon etc and what a great way to start.
Thank you Freecyle.

Coming across nice, genuine people who are great designers can be hard, I met Melin when I was working in admin about a year ago - we hung out, had some drinks and chatted about design... as you do.
I asked her to design my business cards and then my labels as I was so happy with her work, check out her website here www.me-design.me

Weddings and hen parties - a cause for celebration... I had so much fun at my good friend Naomi’s hen party that I thought I would mention it on my blog. Celebrating the union and to congratulate Naomi and Chris and to be invited to an occasion where you get to dress up and have a little fun. The theme was vintage and so all the guests were asked to wear a vintage dress or outfit.. A great opportunity for me to be inspired.

All went well with my hour on the fourth plinth for the one and other (www.oneandother.co.uk ) project, check out Crisis website ( www.crisis.org.uk) for an update .

The crisis volunteers on the ground managed to get over a 100 signatures for the petition. I had a great time and must say with all that was happening in the square it still remained serene and peaceful up on the plinth.
A once in a life time experience.

Mariama on the plinth at Trafalgar Square campaigning for Crisis

24th August 2009
What’s new and what I am excited about this week.
One week to go before I get to take part in the one and other – Antony Gormley project on Bank Holiday Monday, very excited and not sure what to expect but very excited just the same.

Floor cushions – The three colour floor cushion was inspired and created as a birthday gift for a friend who loved floor seating but considered it completely underrated “why don’t we sit on the floor more?”
I like an opportunity to create and was pleasantly surprised when my friend remarked ‘’Mariama, this cushion has changed my life, thank you”. So I have added the three colour floor cushion to my collection for you to enjoy, each cushion is created as an individual piece, but you can specify colours that will suit you and your home, please email for details.

Feel like its all coming together for the Antony Gormley One and Other project, spoke with Jenny to discuss what I might be able to do on the plinth to promote Crisis and Jenny came up with an idea to highlight the homeless and the safety net which is currently failing homeless people in this country.
The campaign is called ''Expose the truth: the safety net isn't working'' Check out the link for more details
www.crisis.org.uk/page.builder/Expose_the_truth.html.

Confirmed with Crisis today to get a banner to promote them whilst taking part in the Antony Gormley One & Other project.. very happy about this as I had enjoyed volunteering with Crisis Open Christmas and also at Crisis Skylight as Sewing and Alterations teacher and really think that doing voluntary work is a great way of giving something back to the communities we live in, meeting new people and having new experiences.. oh and learning something too. Check out their web site: www.crisis.org.uk

Custom made - I love custom made projects as I can create something, add my ideas and give the person something that is individually tailored to them. I was asked to design some cushions as part of a wedding gift including fillings and cushion covers to match a room and current furnishings. I chose to use a silk dupion and a polyester jacquard in rust / burnt orange.
